Super second half seals if for Kippax
New Earswick All Blacks 4 v 16 Kippax Welfare 19th Sept 2009
Kippax headed to york looking to avenge a narrow defeat the last time the two teams met.
The first half was a dour affair and Kippax set the tone early on with stray passes and knock-ons littering their play. They only managed to complete a set once and had little possession as New Earwick laid siege to their line. It was to their credit that Kippax defended superbly and went in at the break only four points behind, although that was the second time on the bounce that they had been nilled in the first half.
It was a very different second half as Kippax went on the front foot and took the game to the All Blacks. Some strong pressure was rewarded with a penalty for off-side and Wes took advantage to barge over for the opening score, Liam slotted the extras and Kippax had a 6-4 lead.
Not long after a superb cross field kick from Liam put the ball on a plate for Mossa who grounded for another try. A successful kick saw the score move to 12-4 and Kippax had some breathing space. They also had the final say with a super flowing move across the field that was capped by Mossa in the corner and the victory was sealed at 16-4.
The forwards worked their socks off on an unseasonably warm day with James, Harrison, Azza, Max, William, Thomas and Jordan all playing their part. The centres and wingers held their shape well and Luke, Ben, Jack, Sam and James Barra moved up as a unit. Russ and Tom tackled well down the middle and they all played their part to nil New Earswick in the second half..
Wes won Man of the Match, Liam was Runner Up and Russ Most improved.
